When you think of a remote island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, you may not be immediately think of folding mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Although Barbados still faces a number of challenges when it comes to wheelchair access . However, I think it is a very favorable country that works hard in 2012. The Fully Affordable Barbados Initiative (FAB), a group of government agencies, offers incentives to investors who want to create or improve. Real estate or tourism products and "recognize the importance of access to create a truly inclusive society as part of your vision".

I chose Barbados as the destination for the FAB program and although I know I will have to work harder to get around, I know I will get a lot of help and feedback from the people of Barbados. With the invaluable help of the blessed rental homes in Bridgetown, my good friend Azure and I were able to see these places and create this list of amazing places you could see exploring Barbados in your folding mobility scooter. Wheelchairs can be purchases from reputable suppliers all over the world.

Harrison Caves The last time I explored an underground cave was in the Carlsbad Caves in New Mexico while I was still walking ten years ago. I was a little skeptical when our guide Ricardo said to take us to Harrison Cave, but Azure and I are happy to learn that the tram ride is folding mobility scooter accessible! You need to call one day in advance to make sure there is a special vehicle next to the travel drum waiting for your visit. The cave itself is relatively small. However, there are stunning views of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains and reflective pools. Be prepared to get wet, because 100% humidity ensures "rain"! The toilets in the guest center are large and accessible, and outside vendors are happy to offer everything you want to see from your cabins.

George Washington Palace, I was not aware of the historical ties between Barbados and the United States. But the house where George Washington lived in Bridgetown before the American Revolution was more interesting. The building is very well preserved and tour guides offer interesting stories about the time of the first president and his brother. Ground floor can be reached by someone using wheelchair or scooter accessories. (I can easily beat it with my electric scooter.) The kitchen goes one step up. But I see the whole room from the door. On the second floor of the historic building is a museum that is inaccessible. All tour guides like to take a photo from your phone or camera of the shows and information boards so you can enjoy reading and watching later.

Barbados Congress and Museum This beautiful government building is located in the heart of Bridgetown and welcomes guests of all ages. The Barbadian Congress is the third oldest legislature in America. (By Virginia Burgesses Council and Bermuda Council) and the oldest Commonwealth council. Museums, parliaments and government buildings are folding mobility scooter accessible and consumers are offered a 50% discount on admission. Later you can turn through National Heroes' Square, Independence Square and Chamberlain Bridge to see the hustle and bustle of locals and tourists in the city.

St. After visiting Old St. John's Parish Church In St. John's Church we went on a tour of the island. According to English / Bishop tradition, services have been held at this site since 1645. The first wooden building in 1676. Destroyed by fire and stone building in its place. After the hurricanes of 1780 and 1831. The building was built in 1836. Many places of interest include a chancellery, pulpit, font, stairs, the Westmacott sculpture and the sundial. The church itself has a flat entrance, ideal for using mobility scooter accessories, grounds and a tomb. The end of the church is fully accessible. The view of the east coast of Barbados is breathtaking.

The Barbados Museum The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is housed in a historic building formerly used as a military prison for St. Barbados. Dosage of garden. The museum began with a historic community founded in its time by Eustace Maxwell Shilstone. It provides an ongoing history of the island's history, leading families and public figures, ancient buildings and other antiquities of interest to Barbados and abroad. "The gallery on the ground floor is ideal for mobility scooter accessories for about 90 years. Percentage and in the museum, toilets are wheelchair accessible. One slope leading to the wings of the museum is very steep. But the staff will help if needed. Warmington, Cunard and Military Galleries are not wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are not available at the Shilstone Memorial Library. But it is possible to arrange a meeting with the librarian in an accessible place.

Hastings Boardwalk, Azure and I accidentally discovered this trail because it surprised me at lunch at a restaurant called Tapas and sat there. This was the first Barbados trail with sweeping views, seats and retreats, located approximately one mile from Rocky Beach to Bridgetown. The stairs start below the Accra Beach Hotel, which runs parallel to the highway to Hastings. A short stop from Coconut Palace is also complemented by a well-organized scenic view and a landscaped garden where guests can enjoy views of the south coast and sunsets.
